Engaging and fun online classes during covid

The new coronavirus pandemic has led hundreds of millions of people to study from their homes. Virtually every level has been taking classes from home, all the way from preschool to grad school. This can be monotonous and boring for most people (and even teachers!) since usual online classes can get old fast and lead students to lose interest over time.

However, there are some ways to make classes fun and engaging for students, which do not take that much extra time to plan and can be even used by parents to create interesting topics that will aid their children’s study time.

In this blog, we are going to cover some of these ways to create fun and engaging content for both students and children.

Use online resources their potential

Having fun and engaging classes does not mean that there has to have a full comedy sketch in class, neither does it means that you need to waste hundreds of dollars in software and online subscriptions on platforms that offer the newest tools in the market.

Something as easy as knowing how to use your school-provided platforms to their best and knowing how to include engaging and fun online resources when planning will give students a better learning experience overall.
Start classes with engaging ice-breaking activities

Once that you get students’ attention, you have already succeeded. That is why starting classes with fun and engaging ice-breaking activities can lead students to pay more attention to the whole class. Using online resources, such as YouTube videos, opening with brief games such as Kahoot, or even just asking some provocative questions can engage students to the rest of the class.

Record your classes

Since students are learning from home, there are elements that cannot be controlled by the teacher, such as distractions, interruptions, and connectivity issues. That is why by just recording the class (most online platforms have an option to record classes) you give students the opportunity to catch up with lost material and even just study and cover topics once again.

Keep things dynamic

Sure, there are some times that you need to engage in traditional online activities, but having a variety of activities can be engaging and fun for students. Try using new free platforms, new materials, and new group and individual activities and you will look at how students will get more engaged with online classes.
